What I rent: Kelvin and Leanne.

Our lettings negotiator caught up with our recent move-in for a morning coffee and a catch up this week. We think it’s important to be transparent, and what better way to demonstrate what it’s truly like to rent in Redhill, than from someone who currently is? We asked Kelvin and Leanne all about it.

Hi Kelvin, how much do you and Leanne pay to live here?

£1,385pcm.

How did you find the property?

On Rightmove.

And what do you get for what you pay?

A two bedroom apartment with a large open plan living space. Having the space to work from home, but not be in the main living room, was important to me. Leanne commutes, and being walking distance to both Redhill and Earlswood train stations is ideal. We have both space and convenience, and we also benefit from a communal garden, bike storage and an allocated parking space.

Do you feel like you have a good deal?

Yes, we actually offered a little bit higher in order to secure the amazing property. We knew on viewing that it would be popular, and didn’t risk missing out. We’ve had a bad experience in the past and when relocating to the area knew what we wanted.

What do you think of the area, Redhill?

This is a great location with easy access to local amenities and walking distance to Redhill Train Station. Redhill train station also has good links to London.

Do you feel like you have enough space?

Definitely.

We both have a lot of stuff – mostly clothes and furniture. The spacious nature of this apartment has allowed us to use the second bedroom as an office space for remote working, which in turn has allowed us to make better use of our living space.

Have you found it difficult to decorate when renting?

Our dealing with the Landlord and Ralph James has been extremely positive so far. Having sort permission from the landlord, we have been able to hang a few fixtures up. However, we have had to really think about what we put up on the walls and how things are fixed to them.

Are there any problems with the home you have to deal with?

None whatsoever.

How have you made your place feel like home?

The apartment came unfurnished, and so it allowed us to put our stamp on it. With the contemporary kitchen and neutral tones, it’s been easy to make our own. We have furnished the apartment with lots of modern furniture which complements the layout of the apartment.

Do you have plans to move again any time soon?

No, we relocated to the area recently, we are completely happy here and plan on staying until we can get on the property ladder ourselves.

Do you want to own a place some day or are you happy to rent?

Yes definitely. We’re currently saving to buy but also want to enjoy our lives, which includes having a lovely home in a great location, whilst we build our careers and save for a deposit. In the meantime, renting allows us to be in our own space, in our chosen location.
